About SARAH BERRY

Born to be creative…

I have always made things…as a little girl swinging her legs at the dining room chair, I was forever cutting, sticking and painting cardboard toilet roll tubes, empty cereal packets and washing up bottles! In all honesty, back then, what I was making didn’t matter – it was the process of making that I loved.

Now 40 years later, I’m still making things, although the materials have developed a little! The process of creating is still the passion for me, but the icing on the cake is the customer’s pleasure in seeing what I have created for them.

I discovered mosaic about 25 years ago after I was gifted a kit. It was a wall hanging with a fish design and I remember loving every second of that mosaic-making process and keen to learn more.

That mosaic kit started my passion, and there was no looking back! With my vast understanding of materials from a previous job, I was able to start mixing other materials into the standard glass mosaic tile mosaics and getting some exciting results. Knowing how materials will react to outdoor temperatures and humidity is vital to creating a piece of outdoor mosaic art/sculpture that will stand the test of time.

Now, as a contemporary mosaic artist living in France, I have become fascinated with contrasts – contrasts between not only colour and form, but also textures. I am inspired by my every day surroundings and also the materials in front of me.

In the past couple of years I have also discovered how much I love to share what I know about making mosaic. Mosaic-making is a complex thing, its not just about sticking a tile on a board – there are techniques and there are important factors to consider. It’s important to know that the project that takes days/weeks/months to make, will be durable and practical in the long term. I am experienced with this, and am happy to teach and share. Contact me if this interests you.
